Cape Town – School principals have said that pupils who skipped school to queue for Justin Bieber's concert on Wednesday will not be in any trouble, reports Cape Argus.
The concert, which was held at the Cape Town Stadium, saw many Beliebers sleep over on Tuesday night after Bon Jovi's concert or queue from as early as 05:00 on Wednesday morning to ensure a front-row seat to the show.
Cape Town school principals told Cape Argus on Thursday that there's basically nothing they can do if the parents gave consent and notified the school of a pupil's absence.
"Parents have that right over their children. Obviously there are disciplinary repercussions for pupils who bunk school without their parents knowing," said Pat McEwen, deputy principal at Wynberg Girls' High School.
Other principals felt that seeing Justin Bieber perform was a "once in a lifetime opportunity" for many young pupils.

Spokesperson for the provincial education ministry, Bronagh Casey, earlier warned that the concert would not provide an adequate excuse for children to be absent from school on Thursday.
"The Western Cape education department is committed to ensuring the maximum use of teaching and learning time. In terms of the National Policy on Learner Attendance, it is the responsibility of parents to ensure that their children attend school daily," she said.
"Therefore, learners are expected to be at school the following day. Based on their respective codes of conduct, schools will deal internally with learners who are absent because of the concert."
This did not however deter parents and their children from attending the sold-out stadium show which saw Justin send passions into overdrive as he swaggered onto stage dressed all in white.
Justin Bieber will be performing at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday 12 May.
